Let’s Enjoy a Beer Casually in Nagoya: Meet You at HUB!

Dear Adventurous Spirits,

Today, let’s dive into the heart of Nagoya and discover “HUB” together — a cozy spot where you can savor a beer with that quintessential British flair! Originally, our plan was to check out a different spot, but it was packed. That’s when “HUB” came into the picture, turning an unexpected moment into a fabulous find!

Remember, “casual” is the magic word here. Keep that in mind as we wander through.

So here we are, in the bustling center of Nagoya, right beneath the iconic TV Tower, at “HUB.” Boasting over 103 locations across Japan, including four right here in Nagoya (two in Sakae and two near Nagoya Station), finding “HUB” is a breeze — just aim for the TV Tower, and you’re there. Isn’t it wonderful how some things are just effortlessly accessible?

In Nagoya, British-style pubs like “HUB” are a rare gem. With only four in the city, it might seem they’re just starting to sprout. Yet, this scarcity makes them all the more appealing, especially to international visitors.

For foreigners stepping into Nagoya, “HUB” wraps you in the warm, familiar embrace of a British pub, easing the novelty of a new place. Without the hurdles of language or cultural differences, stepping into “HUB” lightens your Nagoya adventure, making it both more enjoyable and comfortable.

“HUB” invites you to relish in true British pub style: order at the counter, pay, then relax with your drink at a table. The joy of casually ordering another round whenever you fancy is just splendid. We eagerly opted for their standout “HUB Ale.”

This ale, a delightful departure from the usual yellow beers of Japanese izakayas, boasts a slightly amber hue. While pilsners dominate the Japanese beer scene, “HUB” introduces us to the world-embraced ales.

Ready for a taste? Let’s raise our glasses! Cheers!

Oh, how satisfying! This ale offers a depth and richness beyond standard Japanese beers, with a refreshing floral undertone peeking through the bitterness. Ever heard beer lovers say, “I live for this glass”? Well, this taste is exactly why.

Our choice of snacks — fish & chips, roast beef, anchovy sauce-drizzled cabbage, and Margherita pizza — were all hits. But the real star? The cabbage with anchovy sauce. Its irresistible mix of sweetness and the savory punch of garlic and anchovy sauce had us pondering how to recreate it at home. My wife and I buzzed with excitement over our culinary project, a delightful moment of connection.

As we savored our beers and bites, the place buzzed with more guests, all finding their own cozy corner or standing spot to enjoy their drink. The unique charm of “HUB” is its welcoming vibe, inviting even solo visitors to step in without hesitation.

Friends, take a look at this photo! It took me a moment to believe it. “HUB” proudly displays trophies won by “Nagoya Grampus,” the city’s beloved professional soccer club, showcasing their partnership with the pub.

As a Grampus fan, seeing these trophies flooded me with memories of matches watched, cheers shared, and emotions felt. It made the beer taste even better (haha). To casually glimpse these trophies right in the heart of Nagoya was a genuine treat. My wife, also cheering for Grampus, has been a bit down due to their recent games (haha).

After a merry round of four drinks, it was time to head home, albeit to a light scolding from my wife about overindulging. But hey, isn’t being cared for another form of happiness?

Our trip to “HUB” turned a simple Nagoya night into an adventure filled with unexpected delights. Why not embark on your own “SAMURAI STROLLS” in Nagoya? Should you stumble upon a captivating scene or a newfound favorite spot, please share it with me on Twitter or Facebook!
